School fit
Is Banneker a fit?
- The school
- Banneker is a DCPS selective high school. Families apply through the My School DC application, and the school scores each application itself.
- What it looks for
- Banneker says it looks for achievers with a passion for learning, a commitment to community, and who work through challenges, and that the most successful applicants show tenacity through achievement on their GPA.
- Grades that matter
- Only grades are reviewed. Scale: all A's or A's and B's = 10 points, A's, B's and one C = 6, more than one C = 4, C average = 2. The rubric says successful applicants typically have all A's and B's on both reviewed report cards, and that applicants with lower grades have found success with the right academic support. Banneker may contact counselors for grade conversion scales, and treats all applicants, including international students, the same way.
- Course credit
- My School DC notes that public DC high schools set their own course and grade requirements, and that a passing grade at one school may not earn credit at another. Work with the middle school counselor on transcript questions.
